Onconase, a mesothelioma drug from Alfacell Corp. has been granted orphan status, which grants Alfacell seven years of marketing exclusivity. Onconase, which is intended to treat malignant mesothelioma, still needs to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
